As you wear your aligners throughout the day, they tend to get a little worn out, which is why it is very important that you care for them as much as you can. To help you do so, Dr. Baaqee recommends doing the following things:

No. 1: Don’t eat or drink
Please make sure to remove the aligner from your mouth before you eat or drink anything, except water. It is perfectly acceptable to drink water while the aligner is in your mouth; however, any other food or drink will cause sugar, bacteria, and food particles to stick to the inside of your aligner. This will result in the development and growth of tooth decay and plaque.

No. 2: Clean the aligner
Make sure you clean your aligner every time you clean your teeth. This is vital because it will wash the plaque and bacteria away from your aligner, giving your smile a better chance at survival. You can clean your aligner with your Invisalign® cleaning kit or with a specific cleaning solution your orthodontist recommends. Please do not clean your aligner with mouthwash.

No. 3: Store the aligner properly
When you take the appliance out of your mouth, make sure you store it in the case it came in and you keep it in a cool environment. It is also important that you keep it out of the reach of children and pets.

No. 4: Don’t chew gum
Gum is a product that severely damages and destroys Invisalign aligners, so please refrain from chewing gum while the aligner is in your mouth.

If you do these things, your aligner will remain in tip-top shape and you will be able to reach your smile goals in no time!
