It’s best to avoid having a dry socket at all costs; however, sometimes it happens. Oftentimes, it occurs after you’ve extracted a tooth and you’ve used a straw, had poor oral hygiene techniques, or smoked. So, if you’ve experienced a dry socket, Dr. Susanne Baaqee and our team are happy to help you by providing the following treatment steps at Classic Smiles:

-Your dentist will clean the area of your mouth where your tooth was extracted. Then, she will place a medicated dressing in the socket.

-You will need to change the medicated dressing daily until the socket begins to heal and the pain disappears.

-Your dentist will prescribe painkillers to you to help relieve pain and discomfort. Take the drugs as recommended and make sure to follow the instructions. These pills should be nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

-Please do not smoke or use any tobacco products while you are healing.
