Experienced Ocoee, FL, Dentists
Our mission at Classic Smiles is to give all of our patients in and around Ocoee, FL, a smile that they can proudly show off. While some people are already confident in their smile, others may not quite feel that way. This may because of a number of reasons such as crooked teeth, tooth decay, gum disease, or missing teeth. If you feel insecure or not confident in the appearance of your smile, there’s really no need to worry. Even in the case of missing teeth, our reliable dentists are capable of restoring and bringing back your beautiful smile. One of the many services that we offer to improve your teeth’s function are through the usage of dental bridges.
A dental bridge is a type of restoration that’s used to replace one or more missing teeth in a patient’s mouth. It will fill the space where the teeth are missing and help keep the natural structure of your shape. Without the proper treatment, it will be difficult to participate in everyday activities such as eating and speaking.
Our Dental Bridge Procedure
A simple bridge to replace a missing tooth is comprised of three different parts. There’s the replacement tooth (sometimes referred to as a pontic) and there’s the two crowned teeth on each side of the missing tooth (known as the abutment teeth). These crowned teeth are what provides support for the replacement tooth to stay attached in the mouth. For the dental bridge to fit, the existing teeth that are on each side of the gap need to be shaved down so that the crowned teeth can fit over them. The replacement tooth is attached to these crowns so when the crowns slide over the teeth, the replacement tooth will cover the gap that was left by the missing tooth.
Dental bridges can also be used to replace multiple missing teeth at a time. They utilize the same process, except that instead of one replacement tooth in the middle, there will be a few.
The Benefits of Bridges
The longer you leave the space from a missing tooth, the more serious the problem can be. If it is left untreated, then nearby teeth may drift to other locations that may affect the alignment of your bite. An improper bite can put unwanted stress on your teeth and jaw joints, which can cause discomfort and pain.
Some of the benefits of bridges include, but aren’t limited to, the following:
- Dental bridges will restore and enhance the appearance of your smile.
- They’ll also restore your function and make it easier for you to chew, eat, and speak.
- A bridge will keep the natural shape of your face intact.
- You’ll be able to prevent your remaining teeth from shifting into the gap left by your missing teeth.
- Dental bridges are fixed and don’t need to be removed.
- They look just like your natural teeth.
- They also require the same care as the rest of your teeth – just obey your typical brushing and flossing habits like normal.
